We are living through an extraordinary moment for our industry. Never before have we had so many tools, nor have they evolved at such speed.
Artificial intelligence, IoT and connectivity are expanding what a space can do and the way people expect to interact with it. What we consider advanced today will become commonplace in just a few years.
In this context, we believe the most important question is not what technology we can incorporate, but which technology is worth incorporating and for what purpose. That distinction requires judgment.
It requires first understanding the purpose of a project and making decisions with not only the day of delivery in mind, but also how it will perform years later. It also requires much closer collaboration among the different disciplines involved in a project.
Today’s complexity makes working independently increasingly less viable; several of the voices featured in this edition agree precisely on the importance of anticipating and coordinating.
But the challenge that excites us most is the human one.
The tools will continue to change. Knowledge will have to evolve with them. We will need professionals who are better prepared, curious and capable of combining technical specialization with an understanding of business and people. For us, developing that talent is just as important as adopting any new technology.
